what kg rating is pe2. Submitted by Raff-J on Mon, 2011-08-15 17:18. Fishing Discussion; With a big variation in PE rating versus breaking strain, why do the rod manufactures sell rods with a PE rating ? shouldnt it be an breakin strain ? I notice on the better quality rods they quote KG's at different angles. On any given rod, there is a line rating. What is it telling us? Example, I have a heavy rod rated from 10 to 20 pounds. Does that mean the rod won't snap if I stick with 20lb's or lighter line because theoretically, the line would snap before the rod does?

Surf rod powers are vastly different – Where a steelhead rod rated “medium” would typically be 8-12lb line, a medium surf rod could be somewhere around 12-25lb line. A medium-heavy salmon rod 10-20lb and medium-heavy surf 17-40lb. These days, fishing line manufacturers are increasingly using the PE rating which originated from the Japanese numbering system they used to measure the diameter of silk thread since forever. The PE rating is a measure of the lines’ diameter, not it’s breaking strain, so keep that in mind. The rod PE rating is a useful guide of the workable braid size/strenght for it but use the x10 rule in working out the braid strenght for you. This PE rating is not related to the rod's lifting prowess. This is a totally different thing altogther. The Asian jig masters like to boast of super high levels of rod lifting power. The most common use of "PE" is to measure the diameter of polyethylene fishing lines. A PE size (e.g PE 0.6, PE 1, PE 2, PE 3 and so on) is based on a Japanese numbering system called "gouw", which was originally used to measure the diameter of silk thread. The “PE” stands for Polyethylene, the fibre used to make Dynema and Spectra braided lines. The PE rating is a constant measurement, so while two lines advertised as being rated to 50lb may actually test at different breaking strains, two lines with the same PE rating will always be the same diameter.

In the Japanese market they use the line diameter as a reference measure instead of the lb rating. Surely the lb rating is still used on packages and for marketing purposes but all the reels and rods are rated and measured according to the PE line rating. When selecting the best bass rod for the style of fishing you plan to use it for, there is a ton information to consider. Bass rods have multiple ratings that make them different from one another, like the length of the rod, the power rating, and the action rating. All of these, and other ratings, play an important role in a rods performance. what kg rating is pe2. Submitted by Raff-J on Mon, 2011-08-15 17:18.
